Recuperating Center

Project Type : Student Work - 2017

Variating sequences of horizontal and vertical bamboo beams embody the mental and physical state of the Sepak Takraw sports team that progresses throughout the use of the recuperating space. From training in the gym to relaxing in the Spa, the wellbeing of the team members is at the core of the design philosophy.

The culture of the team is celebrated through the choice of traditional materials inspired by vernacular Thai architecture to enhance the spirit of cohesion and community.

A play on voids and fills between the main structural beams adapts to the nature of the activity across the space: Translucent polycarbonate panels offer privacy when required and interaction when stimulated. The objective was to create a communal space where the team can regroup and build a deeper dynamic beyond the playground.

The balance between sturdiness and lightness, -a main principle in the Sepak Takraw sport, translates through the implementation of bamboo stems that carry the main architectural elements of the space. Combining traditional aesthetic with modern functionalism to offer a fluid rhythm of interaction between the team, their faculty and their roots.
