“Rakweh”

Project Type : Student Work - 2018

Family of Objects

[Sobhiyeh]:  a Lebanese ritual of gathering in the morning to converse around a pot of coffee.

My objective was to reinterpret the traditional Lebanese coffee set in a bolder more efficient way. By adapting the design to a contemporary context, enthusiasts living abroad can preserve the “Sobhiyeh” ritual across environments.

Through ideation, I played around the proportions of one shape to preserve hierarchy in sequence of use and coherence between components.

Conical shapes were explored as a reference to the Lebanese visual language, then adapted the convexity of the volumes to fit the attributes of each member.

This family of object includes a coffee jug; the Rakweh; in which the coffee is made and served, the sugar pot and stirring spoon, and the coffee cups.
